A week ago, we were contacted by the second largest media content distributor in the world, Upworthy, asking us if they could distribute our video about how we worked with Claudia Fox Tree to portray the Arawak Native American oral history in our Day of the Dead event. For those of you who know what Upworthy is, you likely aready know where I’m going with this.
They sent me a contract giving them non-exclusive rights for distribution and I signed it a few days ago. Yesterday, my representative said it could take as little as 2 weeks to finish optimizing the video (entering captions, doing a write-up, etc) and releasing it.
What will happen from there? Well, their lowest performing video (15K views) received more views in 3 days than our best YouTube camp video has in 3 years. Many of their videos are in the 100,000 to 1M+ views. Along with the video, they will be including our website URL. As well, local media agencies use Upworthy to curate their human-interest stories. So we were told to expect a great deal of interest on the local level as well.
What does this mean to you? If you haven’t already registered for camp, or you only registered for one session and were considering adding another, PLEASE register now with our mobile-friendly form. Once this video is released, we will be handling registrations on a first come, first served basis. This applies to each of our summer camps, both locations, and all types (Day, Quest, and Overnight): Wizards & Warriors Camp, Zombie Camps, Blackwatch Teen Camp, and Little Knights Camp. It also applies to our Winter and Spring Breaks.
We also wanted to remind you that we are still a small business. As such, once you submit your registration form, it may take some time for us to confirm your successful registration. Even without this video distribution, we have been working hard to manage our incoming calls and answering questions. But rest assured, we will handle registrations in the order that they are received and successfully processed (make sure your credit card information is accurate). We love our returning campers and we know some new camp parents have recently expressed interest in this summer. We wanted to give you this advance notice so that you don’t miss out this summer because of Upworthy’s distribution of our video. We are excited about the possible growth, but we will not take on more campers than we are capable of serving in accordance with our company’s Purpose of creating a safe, fun, and educational environment where our Heroes and Guardians can grow and learn. With this in mind, we WILL be capping our camps and turning away business once we are filled to capacity.
